SUMMARY:Threat Assessment
DESCRIPTION:Threat assessment and\nmanagement evolved from practices used
  to assess and manage potential risk of\nviolence. This K-12 school team 
 training will help your school form or enhance\nthe team that will focus 
 on identifying\, assessing and managing the risk/threat\nof violence pose
 d by students\, staff\, and community members toward the school\ncommunit
 y. Schools are encouraged to participate with a team of at least 4 member
 s (e.g.\, administrators\, faculty/staff\, security or law enforcement\np
 artner\, and mental health partner). The purpose of threat assessment\nte
 ams are distinct from issues addressed by safety teams\, student behavior
 \nteams\, and crisis response teams\; though all of these school teams ma
 y be\nimplicated in strategies for monitoring and managing potential thre
 ats. Teams\nwill leave the workshop with sample protocols to adapt for us
 e in their school\nenvironment. The objectives for this two day training 
 include:\n\n1.  Identify and use the principles of threat assessment and 
 management in school settings\n2.  Demonstrate effective strategies for a
 ssessing risk\n3.  Formulate strategies for monitoring and managing risk\
 n4.  Describe effective threat assessment and management protocols approp
 riate for school settings\n5.  Apply principles of threat assessment and 
 management to case examples\n\nA Safety (and Security)\nTeam is\na group 
 of individuals who are committed to andresponsible for\nassessing any saf
 ety risks or security threats\nthat could affect their school\, staff\, a
 nd students. This\ngroup is responsible for safety and security planning\
 \,\nprevention\, and disaster preparedness and response.\n\nA Threat\nAsse
 ssment Team is a group of officials that convene\nto identify\, evaluate\
 \, and address threats or potential threats to\nschool security. Threat as
 sessment teamsreview incidents of\nthreatening behavior by students (curr
 ent and former)\, parents\, school\nemployees\, or other individuals.\n\n
 A Crisis\nTeam is a group of individuals trained to provide trauma\nmitig
 ation and education in the aftermath of a critical\nincident.
